- Bucs dominate Eagles in Wild Card game
By Lily Belcher Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield said his team’s hard work paid off in their dominating Monday nightWild Card 32-9 victory over the Eagles. “We worked extremely hard to get a chance to be in the playoffs,” Mayfield said after the game. “And we just wanted an opportunity and our guys came out and played really, really well.” The Bucs were firing on all cylinders, making key catches for touchdown drives on the offensive side with the defense holding the reigning NFC champions to just one touchdown. The defense shut down all 11 third and fourth down plays attempted by Philadelphia, putting pressure on the struggling Eagles offense. After losing to the Eagles in week three, the Bucs prioritized squashing Philadelphia’s running game, holding them to just 42 rushing yards. Head coach Todd Bowles, who celebrated his first playoff victory, called the win “very enjoyable” and spoke to the creativity of his defense. “We make sure we put some calls in and try to scheme up some things and get them out of it a little bit,” Bowles said. Bowles said Mayfield was sharp during the game, despite a few dropped passes early on. He managed to complete 22 of 36 pass attempts for a total of 337 yards. Mayfield was actively trying to encourage his team on the sidelines and turned to the stands to bring out more energy from the fans. “I thought all of those guys were upbeat,” Bowles said. “…Everybody on the sideline was upbeat...Everybody was helping each other out. Good team win.” Mayfield, fighting through injured ribs and a hurt ankle, had a strong start, scoring on four of their five first half drives. The quarterback showed his ankle wouldn’t be a concern for Tampa Bay, running his way out of trouble with a 7-yard scramble. “It’s a long season. Everybody is fighting some sort of injury and everybody did the best they could to prepare,” Mayfield, who is rehabbing and treating his own injuries, said. Mayfield connected with David Moore for a 44-yard reception after blown man-to-man coverage by the Eagles. Philadelphia corner backs Avonte Maddox and Eli Ricks collided as Moore crossed the field, making room for the Bucs’ receiver to invade the Eagles’ endzone. Leading 18-9, Trey Palmer ran in a 56-yard reception to give the Bucs some insurance points late in the third-quarter. Under pressure with six minutes to go in the game, Mayfield completed a deep pass down the middle to Chris Godwin for a 23-yard touchdown. “We should have had a lot more points on offense, but we did just enough to get the win tonight,” Mayfield said. The quarterback said he was proud of his team’s performance to spur them into the next round of the playoffs. The Bucs came into the playoffs with the lowest regular season record, just one game over .500, but it was enough to put them on the path to the Superbowl. Heading into Sunday’s NFC Divisional battle against the Lions, Mayfield called for his team to “stick together” as they did in the back half of the regular season, where they won five of their last six. “Just to keep fighting, to stick together and don’t listen to the outside noise,” he said. “Just trust the people next to you.” The Bucs lost 20-6 against the Lions in week five, but Mayfield said the Bucs are a different team than they were back in October. “We haven’t reinvented the wheel. We’ve just stuck with it and gotten better at the little things,” he said.

- Shohei Ohtani signs historic deal with Dodgers
By Lily Belcher Shohei Ohtani will wear blue next season after signing a 10-year $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The two-way star announced his long-awaited decision on Instagram Saturday afternoon, saying “I apologize for taking so long to come to a decision. I have decided to choose the Dodgers as my next team.” Ohtani’s contract is the largest in baseball history, topping former teammate Mike Trout’s record-setting 2019 12-year, $426.5 million contract. Ohtani will also make the largest average annual salary at $70 million, topping the average annual salaries of $43.3 million for Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer, according to an ESPN article. Sources have said the contract does not include opt-outs and the majority of his paycheck will be deferred to help the Dodgers stay below the competitive balance tax payroll. These deferments were reported to be Ohtani’s idea, according to the article The former Angels’ pitcher/DH signed with the Halo’s crosstown rival over two months after hitting the free agent market. “The six years I spent with the Angels will remain etched in my heart forever,” he wrote in the announcement post. While he was making his decision, rumors tracked Ohtani to almost every team, but the decision to stay in Southern California was not a huge surprise. Ohtani is looking for his first World Series ring and was expected to sign with a frequent playoff contender, unlike the Angels. He was also expected to have a large contract that could only be handled by a big market team like the Dodgers. The two-way star will not pitch until 2025 after undergoing his second elbow surgery at the end of the 2023 season to repair a torn UCL. Both surgeries were performed by Dodgers’ team doctor Neal ElAttrache. Despite being sidelined from the mound, the “modern-day Babe Ruth” is expected to bring his All-Star batting to the plate for the Boys in Blue, as he did throughout the final months for the Angels with the injury. Ohtani was named MVP this year, becoming the first player in MLB history to earn multiple unanimous MVP votes. “I pledge to always do what’s best for the team and always continue to give my all to be the best version of myself,” Ohtani said in the post.
- NHL teams as Taylor Swift Albums & Eras
By: Cristina Hauerstein I was thinking of different ideas for another article and then a Taylor Swift song came on and it was obvious that I had to make both of my favorite worlds to come together. So, here's every Taylor Swift album / era associated with an NHL team. DALLAS STARS: Debut NASVHILLE PREDATORS: Fearless TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS: Speak Now NEW JERSEY DEVILS: Red NEW YORK RANGERS: 1989 BOSTON BRUINS: Reputation ANAHEIM DUCKS: Lover CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS: Folklore MINNESOTA WILD: Evermore TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING: Midnights Some of these were easy decisions, some of them not so much, but I think this is a perfectly curated list for the 2023-2024 season... Well, unless there's an unexpected twist to this season. Do you agree? Let us know in the comments of our Instagram!
- What MLB team is every Taylor Swift Era?
By Lily Belcher I sorted ten MLB teams into Taylor Swifts ten eras. Some of them are a stretch, others are obvious. Let us know what you think! What teams do you think fit Swift's eras better? Taylor Swift Baseball’s first teams earn their spot as Swift’s debut album, kicking off the sport’s stardom. Most notable team in this era: Atlanta Braves-They are the only MLB team to play every season since the beginning of professional baseball and the southern culture in Georgia calls back to Swift’s country accent and cowboy boots days. Fearless Maybe they’re not the original teams, but these Fearless era teams are old and known by everyone, even non-baseball fans. Most notable team in this era: Los Angeles Dodgers-While they’re not an original team, everyone knows them and the Dodgers have iconic players that most people have at least heard of. Speak Now Teams with something to prove played key seasons where they had something to prove. Most notable team in this era: Kansas City Royals-Staging two comeback, game 7 wins in the 1985 postseason, the Royals showed up. Red Cities with beautiful fall weather or a big feud, like Swift’s with Katy Perry, fit Swift’s fifth album Red. Most notable team in this era: Boston Red Sox-The Red Sox are known for their rivalry with the Yankees and AL East teams. Plus, the changing colors of New England’s trees makes fans want to grab their red scarves to bring to Fenway. 1989 MLB’s most popular, big city teams fall into Swift’s first truly pop album. Most notable team in this era: New York Yankees-Baseball’s most popular team welcomes fans to New York and holds the big city reputation Swift earned with 1989. Reputation Teams with scandals and a bad reputation earn their spot in Swift’s album filled with snakes and a wiped social media account. Most notable teams in this era: Houston Astros-The Astros earned their reputation across the league pounding on garbage cans in 2017 and are trying to rebuild their “Delicate” reputation. Lover Teams that have rebranded and built a new reputation fit Swift’s first self-owned album. Most notable team in this era: Cleveland Guardians-The Guardians rebranded at the end of 2021 after years of controversy, but have left that behind them since making the change. Folklore With some of the best story lines, Folklore’s baseball teams have the most interesting and complex headlines and the most loyal fans following them. Most notable team in this era: Baltimore Orioles-The Orioles have some of the most famous Hall of Famers and diehard fans that have been with every good and bad season/headline from Birdland. Evermore Baseball’s easily overlooked and forgotten teams or teams with only one or two stars pair well with Swift’s second “Covid-twin” album, which only has one or two popular songs. Most notable team in this era: Los Angeles Angels-Be honest, the only two notable players on the Halos are Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, and even he likely won’t be Anaheim’s star next year. Midnights These teams are ready for the attention and are unexpected stars. They have a little bit from all the other eras but are ready to bring in new fans. Most notable team in this era: Chicago Cubs-They have a little bit of history, a fan base and love across the country. Maybe they aren’t consistently the best, but they have a few stand out seasons that are enough to make them memorable.

- What NHL Players Would I Want At My Thanksgiving Dinner
By: Cristina Hauerstein On this fine thanksgiving night I can only think of what would be the best players to share mashed potatoes with. Here's the players I think would be perfect. BRAYDEN POINT This one is obvious because besides him being one of the best forwards in the league, but he also seems like he has the best cooking skills. NICO HISCHIER You can't not bring a Swiss to thanksgiving. Who else could bring the best cheese and chocolate and the world? PAT MAROON He's the obvious life of the party (known fact from when he won the Stanley Cup 3 times in a row) and would bring all the alochol. CONNOR MCDAVID I just NEED to know how he does it. How is he that good? And why not go to a better team? So many unanswered questions. ANDREI VASILESKIY After being out for so long, he deserves a big feast before coming back, and he also seems to bring a good vibe and good stories. JUUSE SAROS More specifically, I would hope he would host, another great goalie and seems like the kind to have everyone over to his house and also have the best decorations. RANDY MCKAY My mom loves him, she would show her signed jersey of his and some people think he looks like a 70s pornstar. I don't think I need to explain further. TREVOR ZEGRAS Another life of the party kind of guy, but compared to Maroon, he would bring all the best deserts. HONORABLE MENTIONS Tyler Johnson Anthony Cirelli Mitch Marner
