The Accomplisments of Johnny Gaurdeau

By: Cristina Hauerstein

It has now been a month since Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau's passing in New Jersey, where he was born and grew up. Both him and his brother were murdered by a drunk driver just a week before their sister's wedding where both brother's were best men.

Not only that but both of the men's wives are currently pregnant with kids, and Johnny already had 2 of his own with his wife, who announced it in a speech recently. Players around the league and other famous people have shared the condolences on social media and stories they have with both of the brothers.

Johnny was loved all around the NHL and gave hope to so many young kids because he's one of the shortest players in the league and has accomplished so much despite his height, proving you don't need to be tall to play hockey. Fans in both Calgary, where Johnny began his NHL career and in Columbus, where he last played, have made little memorial infront of both arenas. Players like Cole Caufield hit the ice recently wearing Johnny's number, 13.

Johnny was picked 104th overall (4th round) in 2011 and over the years he has played 763 games with a total of 743 points (243 G, 500 A, +25). In his NHL debut he scored his first goal in the 2013-14 season (the only game he played that year) and his best season was in 2021-22 with the Flames where he ended up with 115 points in just 82 games. Gaudreau has also won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy in 2016-17, and in 2014-15 he was a finalist for the Calder trophy.

Johnny Gaudreau also was on the USHL All-Rookie team (2011) and second All-Star team (2011), he won USHL Rookie Of The Year (2011), Hockey East All-Rookie Team (2012), Hockey East First All-Star Team (2013 and 2014), Hockey East Player of the year (2013 and 2014) NCAA East First All-American team (2013 and 2104), Hobey Baker Memorial award (Top U.S. Collegiate Player) (2014), NHL All-Rookie Team (2015), Played in NHL All-Star game (2015, 16, 17, 18, 19, 22, 23) and NHL First All-Star team (2022).

Johnny Gaurdeau is a legend in the hockey community and he will never be forgotten.
