Hockey and drinks: the perfect combination

By: Cristina Hauerstein

It's finally game day and you and your friends gather around the living room ready to watch your team win against the opposition. It's also Friday night and no one has to go work in the morning, so one of you suggests a drinking game, and it's this one. Here are the rules: (Reminder that you should NOT be participating in drinking activites if you are under the age of 21 in the US or 18 in Europe, alternatives will be added for those who are underage!)

  1. Drink every time the announcers miss-pronunce a player's name. alternative: do 10 push-ups

  2. Drink when a player takes a penalty (2 sips if it's a player who's prone to taking penalties) alternative: recreate the penalty with a friend (no actual harm though)

  3. Drink when your team scores a goal (2 sips if it's your favorite player) alternative: create your best celly

  4. Drink when the refrees make an obvious bad call (good judgement is key) and then yell out ref you suck alternative: still yet at the refs, then do 10 push ups

  5. Drink when a fight breaks out alternative: do 10 sit ups or a shot of vinegar

  6. Drink everytime the announcer compliments the opposing team or makes mention of how either team would do during the playoffs alternative: truth or dare challenge from a friend or do 10 sit ups.

  7. Drink whenever the "NHL23" add comes on alternative: 5 push ups (we all know how often that one comes on)

  8. Drink if you win or lose alternative: dance party!!!!

Here's a list of drinks you can make if you decide to play this game from Kye L (@kyeberger on twitter), but these are especially for our lightning fans.

DRINK #1: "The Lightning Blue Lemonade"

  • One 1.5 ounce shot of Deep Eddys Lemonade Vodka

  • 6 ounces of lemonade of your choice (I like

  • Minute Maid)

  • 1 Ounce of Blue Curaçao Liqueur

Place all contents into a cocktail shaker with ice, shake well and serve in a high ball glass with a lemon wedge. For extra pizzaz use Bolts ice tray with either water for ice cubes or lemon lime Gatorade

DRINK #2: "It Was In" 2004 Calgary Flames Special

  • One 1.5 ounce shot of fireball cinnamon whiskey

  • One 1.5 ounce shot of crown royal whiskey

  • 5 ounces of Hard cider

Pour contents into a rocks glass, with ice, stir with straw and garnish with lemon. Serve on a hockey puck.

DRINK #3: "The Corona Cup" Serves 2-4 people (or 1 Pat Maroon)

  • 1 Lime cut into 8 wedges

  • Two 12 ounce bottles of corona beer

  • 1/2 cup of frozen limeade concentrate

  • 1/2 cup of tequila

  • Ice cubes (preferably festive)

  • 2 to 4 mini Corona "coronita" bottles

Combine ingredients into pitcher, stir well, serve into individual margarita glasses served with salt rim and garnished with mini coronita bottles in each margarita glass.

DRINK #4: "The All Star Break."

  • 1 Scoop of egg nog ice cream

  • One 1.5 Oz shot of Captain

  • One 1.5 Oz shot of rum chata liqueur

  • 2.5 ounces of egg nog

  • 2 to 4 drops of blue food coloring

Combine ingredients into blender, blend well, ensure food coloring provides adequate Blue. If not adequately Blue add more food coloring and stir accordingly. Serve in high ball glass and garnish with half a vanilla pirouette desert stick.

DRINK #5: "The Number One Bullshit"

  • 3/4 ounce vodka

  • 3/4 ounce rum

  • 3/4 ounce tequila

  • 3/4 ounce gin

  • 3/4 ounce blue Curacao liqueur

  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup

  • 1/2 ounce lemon juice

  • 4 ounces of Sprite

Put into cocktail mixer with ice and shake well. Pour into highball glass with ice. Garnish with maraschino cherry but before you take a sip you need to chug a bud light.

REMEMBER: drink responsibly, don't drink and drive, either uber, stay over your friend's house or have a DD to take you home, AND HAVE FUN!

PSA: etsy has lightning bolt molds for icecubes.... just a suggestion...
