Chiefs Win Second Straight Super Bowl

The Chiefs partied the night away in Las Vegas after winning their second straight Super Bowl on Sunday, following tight end Travis Kelce’s lively “Viva Las Vegas” call during the trophy ceremony.

The 25-22 victory over the 49ers marks the fourth Super Bowl title for the Kansas City franchise and third for 28-year-old quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

“No matter what the score is, no matter how much time is left, that guy’s got magic in his right arm and he just found ways to propel us,” Kelce said about his quarterback.

Mahomes propelled his team through regulation and into a tight overtime win, which ended with a short three-yard pass to wide receiver Mecole Hardman Jr. into the end zone.

“Man, I couldn’t be happier for my guy. It brought me to tears seeing that he was the man that got us this ring,” Kelce said about Hardman Jr.

By the end of the fourth quarter, Kansas City and San Franscisco were tied at 19. Per new playoff rules, each team would have the chance with the ball in overtime.

The 49ers took the ball first and drove it down field after a promising 7:38, 17-play possession. However, the Chiefs defense stopped them short and forced a 27-yard field goal, putting the Lombardi Trophy in their sights, as long as they could get a touchdown.

San Francisco kept pressure on Mahomes throughout the game, which showed in Mahomes’ rushed throw away passes and frantic scrambles from deep in the pocket. But, the 49ers pressure couldn’t stop the Chiefs in overtime.

Mahomes evaded 49ers rushers and completed several short passes, including an exciting 7-yard pass that was just shy of the end zone to Kelce, and a 19-yard scramble.

The Chiefs did just what Kelce called them to do in the reportedly tear-jerking speech he made before the game: they stuck to their “formula.”

Before Kansas City was done celebrating, the Chiefs were looking forward to their next challenge: winning their third straight Super Bowl title.
